INDIANAPOLIS, June 16 - Andrew Prendeville
finished 17 of 18 laps in Saturday's Indy Pro
Series race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway
for the Racing Laps for Best Friends program.
Fans make donations to the Best Friends Animal
Society through a Web site at
racinglapsforbestfriends.com based on the number
of laps that the Morristown, N.J.-based driver
completes.
Prendeville has another 18-lap race on the
famous track's 2.605-mile, 13-turn road course
Sunday morning before the U.S. Grand Prix
Formula 1 race.
Both of the Liberty Challenge Indy Pro Series
races on IMS' road course will be covered on
ESPN2 at 5 p.m. EDT on Thursday, June 21.
Prendeville was in tenth place and going for
ninth place when he had trouble passing Logan
Gomez and spun on the last lap in turn one. He
couldn't get the Best Friends Animal Society No.
5 restarted because its battery was dead, which
is why he ended up one lap down. He ended up
21st place in the final rundown.
Prendeville got a great start, passing Chris
Festa and Robbie Pecorari to advance from 16th
to 14th on lap two. He passed Mike Potekhen for
13th on lap four. He got 12th by passing Daniel
Herrington on lap six, right before Jonathan
Klein spun while in sixth after contact with
another driver.
That moved Prendeville up to 11th on lap seven.
He stayed in that spot until he cracked the top
10 on lap 11 with a nifty pass of Phil Giebler
on the frontstretch. That put him directly
behind Gomez and set the stage for the problems
that developed on the last lap while Prendeville
was in tenth and going for ninth.
"We had a top-10 car," Prendeville said
afterwards. "I have to thank the RLR/Andersen
Racing crew for giving me a top-10 car today.
"I'm still trying to understand what happened on
the last lap with Gomez," he added. "It happened
off the frontstretch and Turn 1. In my opinion
he was definitely blocking. I had a good run on
him, and I'm not happy about what happened.
"The reality is I didn't get the pass done,"
Prendeville continued. "In hindsight, I should
have just stayed in tenth and picked him off
tomorrow.
"At least we finished 17 of the 18 laps for the
Racing Laps for Best Friends program, and I
passed some cars," he concluded. " The guys
worked hard to give me a good car. It's a
shame."
After tomorrow's race at IMS the Indy Pro Series
travels to the brand-new Iowa Speedway in
Newton, Iowa for another race next Saturday,
June 23.

payable to "Racing Laps for Best Friends" to:

Donations to the Racing Laps for Best Friends
program may be made using MasterCard, Visa,
American Express or Discover credit cards.
Fans donate a set amount of money for each lap
that Prendeville completes in each race. At $1
per lap for the 18-lap races such as the two
Indy Pro Series races at IMS this weekend, the
donation would be $18 per race or $36. If the
car would only complete 10 laps in one race and
five laps in the other race, then the donation
would be $15.
Best Friends Animal Society supports animal
welfare programs throughout the world, including
Indianapolis. At any given time it is caring for
approximately 1,500 animals at its sanctuary in
Kanab, Utah. Best Friends hopes the exposure to
racing fans will raise awareness of the
organization and gain support for animal
welfare.
