LEXINGTON, Ohio, July 21 - Madge is wagging her
tail.
The
puppy that recently found a new home thanks to
the Best Friends Animal Society is happy because
Andrew Prendeville qualified third on Saturday
morning at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for
Sunday's Indy Pro Series race there. If the
Morristown, N.J.-based driver can finish all 40
laps of Sunday's race, it will mean more
donations for Best Friends through Prendeville's
racinglapsforbestfriends.com website (this
website).
Madge, a puppy Prendeville met during a visit to
Best Friends' sanctuary in Kanab, Utah in March,
has since been adopted and is living in Las
Vegas.
Through the Racing Laps for Best Friends
program, fans make donations to the
not-for-profit organization that operates the
largest no-kill animal sanctuary in the United
States. Donations in any amount from 25 cents
and up per lap can be pledged using the
racinglapsforbestfriends.com Web site and a
major credit card. Raffle tickets for 2008 Indy
500 tickets can also be purchased on the Web
site.
Prendeville, 25, turned Mid-Ohio's 13-turn,
2.258-mile road course in just 1:14.4874 for an
average speed of 109.130 miles per hour with his
Best Friends Animal Society No. 5 on Saturday
morning to earn the third starting spot for
Sunday morning's race. He's driving a black
back-up car prepared in just four days by the
RLR/Andersen Racing team after his primary car
was damaged in a crash at a race at Nashville
Superspeedway last Saturday.
"That's the least I could do for all the hard
work the crew put in," Prendeville said after
the qualifying session. "They prepared a whole
new car in about three days.
"It's our best qualifying position yet, so we're
happy," he added.
"Starting position is very important here," he
noted. "Starting in the top-two rows is crucial.
Once you drop out of the first two rows, your
chances of winning here decrease dramatically."
Sunday's 40-lap or 60-minute Indy Pro Series
race starts at 10:45 a.m. Eastern time. It will
be broadcast on ESPN2 on Thursday, July 26 at
5:30 p.m. Eastern time. Live timing and scoring
will be offered at indycar.com/pro.

Donations to the Racing Laps for Best Friends
program may be made using MasterCard, Visa,
American Express or Discover credit cards.
Fans donate a set amount of money for each lap
that Prendeville completes in each race. At $1
per lap for the 18-lap races such as the two
Indy Pro Series races at IMS this weekend, the
donation would be $18 per race or $36. If the
car would only complete 10 laps in one race and
five laps in the other race, then the donation
would be $15.
