LOS
ANGELES, Aug. 13 - Indy Pro Series driver Andrew
Prendeville will be honored for his charitable
works by GoodSearch.com on
Aug. 18-19.
Past honorees have included Jessica Biel for her
work with Much Love Animal Society; Jeff Bridges
and Heal the Bay, and Melissa Gilbert and
Children's Hospice.
GoodSearch.com - powered by Yahoo - is the
socially responsible Internet search engine that
donates 50 percent of its revenue, or
approximately a penny per search, to the
charities designated by its users. It is used
exactly like any other search engine, and the
pennies add up quickly. Just 500 people
searching four times daily would earn a charity
approximately $7,300 annually.
"There is absolutely no reason not to use
GoodSearch.com; it's so easy," said Prendeville,
who supports the Best Friends Animal Society
using GoodSearch. Best Friends operates the
largest no-kill animal shelter in the United
States, and it works on behalf of animal welfare
concerns around the world.
Prendeville, 25, of Morristown, N.J., developed
a program called "Racing Laps for Best Friends"
that allows fans to make donations to the
not-for-profit organization based on how many
laps he competes in his races. Fans make the
donations through a Web site at
racinglapsforbestfriends.com or on-site at the
different tracks he races at across the country
from March through September. Prendeville also
donated signage on his RLR/Andersen Racing car,
the Best Friends Animal Society No. 5, to
increase awareness of Best Friends. All of his
races are broadcast on ESPN2. The series he
competes in, the Indy Pro Series, is the
official development series of the IndyCar
Series, which includes the Indianapolis 500, the
largest single-day sporting event in the world.
Prendeville also recently participated in a
program organized by the Think First National
Injury Prevention Foundation, visiting the
children's ward at Methodist Hospital in
Indianapolis to talk to children about the
importance of wearing seatbelts and bicycle
helmets.
To date, supporters of the Best Friends Animal
Society have earned more than $2,000 by using
GoodSearch.com as their search engine.
More than 40,000 non-profit organizations are
now actively generating revenue via the site,
and more than 100 charities and schools are
registering daily. GoodSearch.com's popularity
has quickly spread via word-of-mouth and the
blogger community.
Examples of other organizations generating
much-needed funds through GoodSearch.com
include: the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation ($4,600
to date), the Bubel/Aiken Foundation, which
helps children with disabilities ($4,300 to
date), and the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee
($4,300 to date).
Using GoodSearch.com is simple. Because the site
is powered by Yahoo, users are assured of
high-quality results. Each time they search,
money is generated by the site's advertisers for
the users' favorite charity or school.
"We know there are a lot of people who want to
do good but may not have the time or the money
to help out," said Ken Ramberg, co-founder of
GoodSearch and former president of MonsterTRAK,
the largest on-line career site for college
students (now a division of Monster.com).
"GoodSearch makes it as easy as possible,"
Ramberg added. "We've taken something people do
every day - search the Internet - and have
turned it into doing good." |
