SONOMA, Calif., Aug. 26 - Andrew Prendeville not
only completed all 30 laps of Sunday's Valley of
the Moon 100 Indy Pro Series race at Infineon
Raceway, he recorded his best finish ever in the
series when he placed third with his Best
Friends Animal Society No. 5.
Prendeville completed every lap possible in both
30-lap races here this weekend for his Racing
Laps for Best Friends program. Fans make
donations to the Best Friends Animal Society
through a Web
site at racinglapsforbestfriends.com or at the
Best Friends Donation Center at the races based
on the number of laps Prendeville completes.
Prendeville started second in Sunday's race,
which went non-stop. He remained in second
place behind only pole-sitter Ryan Justice for
the first
13 laps.
Eventual winner Richard Antinucci muscled by
Prendeville for second on lap 14 in Turn 11.
Contact
occurred but Prendeville kept control of
his car and
remained in third place the rest of
the
way.
Antinucci passed Justice for the lead on lap 19
in
Turn 11 and had a 1.7400-seconds margin of
victory
over Justice at the checkered. Prendeville was
0.5303
of a second behind Justice at the end.
Prendeville got close to Justice several times.
He set
his fastest lap of the race, a 1:23.8666 for an
average
speed of 98.728 miles per hour, on lap 18, which
was
the fourth-fastest lap of the race.
"We're happy because it's our first podium in
this
series,"
Prendeville said. "My car was good and
it
was a good run.
The team has worked extremely
hard this year. We've had
some frustrating
results,
but this time we got a podium finish.
We hope to
keep the momentum going into Chicago and then
on into the off-season."
Only one race remains on the 2007 Indy Pro
Series schedule:
Sept. 9 at Chicagoland Speedway
in Joliet, Ill. Prendeville is
currently 11th in
the overall point standings, only five points
behind the driver who is tenth, Chris Festa.
Highlights of the Infineon doubleheader will be
shown on
ESPN2 at 5:30 p.m. Eastern time on
Friday, Aug. 31.

Fans donate a set amount of money for each lap
that Prendeville completes in each race. At $1
per lap for the 18-lap races such as the two
Indy Pro Series races at IMS this weekend, the
donation would be $18 per race or $36. If the
car would only complete 10 laps in one race and
five laps in the other race, then the donation
would be $15.
