Prendeville Finishes All 40 Laps Saturday at Mid-Ohio for Best Friends Animal Society

LEXINGTON, Ohio, July 19 - Andrew Prendeville is halfway towards his goal of finishing all 80 laps of Firestone Indy Lights competition at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course this weekend after placing ninth on Saturday with his Best Friends Animal Society No. 5.

The Las Vegas-based driver is trying to achieve the most donations possible for his favorite not-for-profit group, the Best Friends Animal Society. Fans make donations to the animal welfare organization based in Kanab, Utah, based on the number of laps Prendeville completes in his races. The online donations are made at a special website he developed for that purpose at racinglapsforbestfriends.com.

Prendeville will now try to finish another 40-lap race at Mid-Ohio on Sunday morning. It's the second half of a weekend doubleheader for the series, the official development series of the IndyCar Series.

Prendeville qualified 13th in the 22-car field Saturday morning with a lap in 1:14.4672, averaging 109.159 miles per hour around the 2.258-mile, 13-turn road course.

He advanced three positions at the start of Saturday afternoon's race and was never again out of the top 10. He chased Jeff Simmons early, and then Arie Luyendyk Jr. He got by Bobby Wilson for ninth place on lap 36 and then brought his car home in that position four laps later.

"I'm happy with ninth. I picked up four spots," Prendeville said after the race.

"We finished all the laps today with the Best Friends Animal Society car, so we're halfway towards our goal of finishing 80 laps this weekend for the people who made donations to Best Friends at racinglapsforbestfriends.com," he added. "We'll try to get the other 40 tomorrow."

Prendeville is 11th in the overall point standings going into Sunday's race, which starts at 10:35 a.m. Eastern time. He will start in the same position he finished in Saturday's race, ninth. Live timing and scoring will be available at indycar.com/indylights. ESPN2 will show both races on a tape-delayed basis at 2 p.m. Eastern time on July 24.
