Pittsboro, IN Aug 3, 2009 - For the second time this season,
TMR and driver Andrew Prendeville experienced rain-delays
and unrelenting “weepers”
on an oval. Following the
frustrating trend of Iowa, the Kentucky Speedway and IRL
officials fought the weather and weepers which effectively
interrupted all track activity on Friday. With qualifying
cancelled, the league decided to start the race based on
entrants’ points, placing
Andrew 13th on the grid for the
Saturday race. After only one 45 minute practice session
and with threatening weather once again on the horizon,
the race began at 6:00 p.m. Thankfully, the weather held
and the race was completed in its entirety.
Andrew had an excellent start when on the very first
lap there was a two-car crash involving Yacaman and
Kimball. The accident took them both
out of the race,
moving Andrew up to 11th position. Once the green
flag waved again, Andrew had the yellow TMR/Xtreme
Coil car dialed-in and was
on the move, quickly
moving up to 7th. Racing for position with James
Davison for most of the race and touching wheels
briefly, Andrew went
unnervingly high in turn 2,
narrowly missing the wall on lap 65. Almost
simultaneously the yellow came out (for Hinchcliffe’s
spin in the
backstretch) and the race ended two laps
later without going green again. Andrew brought the
Xtreme Coil #2 car home safely with a solid 5th
place
finish, moving up an impressive eight positions.
“I am very happy to have finished in the top 5. We had
some pretty difficult conditions with minimal track time
to get the car sorted out, but
Mark, Graham, and John
got things figured out quickly and it made for our best
result of the year. In practice we were 6th quick but we had to
start 13th based off of points. I knew we would have a good chance of getting into the top 5 if we could stay out of the incidents, which we
did. I’m looking forward to the to the last four races of the season,” said Prendeville.
Added team co-owner, Tom Wood: “After his 5th place finish at Kentucky, Andrew will be heading to one of his favorite road courses, Mid Ohio. We
are looking forward to a good result at this track as well. Andrew has shown he is consistent and continues to improve every week as he and the
team continually improve the car.”
